The DeskCAT™ Multi-slice Optical CT Scanner for Education is ideal for safely demonstrating the following principles in a classroom or laboratory.
| Acquisition: | Projection images (analogous to digital radiography) of a translucent object, detector characteristics, multiple projection angles for CT reconstruction, fan and cone beam geometry. |
| Image Review: | Pre-treatment of projection images for CT reconstruction, filtering, sinograms. |
| Reconstruction: | Feldkamp back projection, variable resolution and voxel dimensions, image data management. |
| 3D Image: | Interact with the reconstructed image, demonstrate artifacts, adjust contrast (level, window). |

The DeskCAT™ scanner and software make it easy for students to learn about the principles of medical imaging in a classroom or laboratory environment by enabling students to acquire, review and reconstruct CT images without the use of potentially harmful x-rays.

Interactive Learning
The above screenshot shows the software layout, which includes 4 windows that display different views of the data. Each window can be enlarged to analyze specific results as necessary.
| A) | The Camera View window displays the live projection images of the phantom inside the aquarium. | |
| B) | The Centre Slice Sinogram window displays the centre sinogram of your scan and updates for each projection angle during a scan. | |
| C) | The Slice Reconstruction window displays the reconstructed central slice and updates in ‘live mode’ for each projection angle during a reconstruction. | |
| D) | The 3D Reconstruction View window allows you to observe, analyze and manipulate the images in 3D. |
